Le Sigh!

I am having a little camera issue today. So in place of my planned post on my Guest Room project I am sharing the lovely image of Kate in her wedding dress. Did you get up early and watch the Royal Wedding? Sign I once had such a crush on Prince William, while other girls put up pictures of Justin, Leo and Orlando I had magazine clippings of William on my wall, oh well another possible future husband crossed off the list!

Just a Little Cuppa'

So I am kinda into the Royal Wedding, though not as much as I wish I was - I blame my lack of TV. You know if I had cable it would be non-stop Royal Wedding programing going on at my house. None the less I am still planning on getting up before the sun on Friday morning making a pot of coffee and having an english muffin and watch two people I will never know tie the knot. Oh yeah and I am totally making my little sister get up early and watch it with me! With my not all together Royal Wedding obsession I do really want a little commemorative something. If it didn't have to be shipped from the UK I would have already ordered one of these cute mugs.

long time no post

Hi Friends,
I am traveling today so there will not be a real post. Also I realized that I never told you last week that I would be taking a little spring break while I visited my Brother and his family in VA for Easter. The rest of the week you can look forward to:
The truth about why sometimes owning a house is just a big old pain in the neck. A royal wedding post or two (with maybe a special Saturday "Fashion Show at Lunch" what to wear to a princes wedding edition - we'll see). And a sneak peek of a project I'm working on for the guest bedroom redo I have cooking.

This is a very serious message from Libby

I am not even kinda kidding when I say; I will be seeing this show, even if I have to drive a 100 miles! Who is with me? You know you want to!

Scala & Kolacny Brothers

I first heard the amazing Belgium girls choir Scala & Kolacny Brothers a few weeks ago on Morning Edition and loved them right away. They are known for their almost ethereal covers of rock and pop songs. Take a listen to this little playlist I put together (the last song is an original) and then go listen to every song you can get your hands (ears) on.

book it

Clearly I am on a Kate Spade kick right now. One more for the wish list this week. So love this clutch that looks like a book. They have three style up right now, but I know at Christmas time they had a few others, so if you look around on ebay etc you might find an even better design.
They are so cute inside! I think these would make a great gift and they are definitely a bag you could use forever as they are never going to be out of style!
And the backs have a quote from the book. Defiantly a new wishlist item, are you with me?!?!

Spring in a Can

I actually have a before and after all my own to share with you, but my camera battery is dead so in its place I have this cool tin can redo (you know I love those!).

Cute right. I haven't really spent much time looking around on the Family Chic blog, but from what I've seen it looks like and interesting and fun read! Love this wreath made with cocktail umbrellas.

The Flowers they are a blooming

Okay maybe not yet, so here is a little something to hold you over until the non felt blossoms start making their glorious entrance.
This wreath is made much like the fall leaf one, starting with a florists styrofoam wreath base and felt. I started by wrapping the wreath base with green felt. Then I was off to make a few flowers.
I should say that I have seen how to's for making felt flowers around the interweb and this is just my kinda clumped together from what I remember version. To make this one purple flower that is about 5 in wide it takes less than one precut square of craft felt (so that is less than $0.30 for one flower). The steps are as follows:
1. cut round(ish) base for flower
2. cut felt into strips in 3 widths (mine were 1.75 in, 1.5in and 1.25 in)
3. cut strips into even(ish) rectangles (mine were all about 1.25in wide)
4. cut rectangles into petal shapes leaving the bottom flat (see image above)
From here you could glue the bottom side down, but I just fold as a sew. Sew the petals around the base (as shown above) two rows of each size.
Until you end up with something like this (this blossom is actually a good deal larger, you can do that by just making the base and the petals bigger to start with). The blue and yellow flowers on the wreath are made a little differently, if you'd like to know how please either leave a comment or email me and I'd be more than happy to walk you through it.

I think just one of these flowers sewn onto a pin back or a hair clip would also be crazy cute! So do you have any fun springy projects going? I'd love to hear about them (or if you make any of these flowers or even better a wreath)

Spring Reading

Ooooops last week I said I was going to have a little springy project for you, but I forgot that it would be the first Friday of the month and therefore it is a "read something good" day! This month I'm reading Elizabeth Gaskell's 19th century novel Cranford. I fell in love with the stories of this small British town a few years ago when I saw the wonderful BBC mini series of the same name. Then when I saw this amazing Penguin Classics edition I knew we were meant to be. So here is to warm sunny spring days getting to know new friends from old times!

P.S. did you read Swamplandia!? What did you think?
